Do Over
The gift hat from my last post was just too large for a newborn baby, so I tried again. It's even a little big for Cocoa Pebbles, though it's perfect for the days when we decide to go big with the hair. It looks good on her, and I've tried to get a proper photograph of her in it, but...
Here is the remix, along with an embroidered onesie/longjohn thingy that I'm a little unsure of.
I'm well aware that my embroidery is...quirky, and I am wondering if to others quirky could mean...something else.
For a while now, I've had the felt and knitted matryoshka-ish dolls in mind.
Last week I saw these lovely wooden ones over at angry chicken. I'd love to try painting blank wooden ones, but I don't know if I've got the painty chops for it. Anyway, I showed Amy's to The Kid, who is somewhat Croatian, and he's eager to have me do a Black-Croatian set for Cocoa Pebbles, so I think I'll try at least one of these versions.
Here is a picture of just a little bit of the goodie box that I received in a swap from Samantha; I am amazed at how well she knew what I'd like! Thanks again, Samantha! This swap thing has been good to me. (Speaking of that, I just put this book up for trade; cute, simple ideas to be Alcotty.)
I've gotten some fabric recently. I was introduced to Cia's Palette by A Bird in the Hand; so many great patterns over there. And my dad was here; he brought me more Nigerian fabrics. I keep wanting to post some of those fabrics in my collection, but it's a little overwhelming. Anyway, here's the latest bit:
I don't like to fill this space with a lot of non-bloggy stuff, but we went to Sesame Street Live (our first time at that sort of thing); and had a good time. Cocoa Pebbles was like WOW for the whole show, and I love all things Henson and puppety so it was all good for me. And in this picture, we all look so crazy it just makes me laugh.

Thank you for posting a link to the Earthquake Relief fund site! I really appreciate you helping me get the word out.
Oh, and that Nigerian fabric is absolutely stunning!

Cocoa Pebbles is adorable in that hat! And it looks like you guys had a blast at Sesame Street live---we've not done that yet with the kiddos--I'm a chicken!

You're killing me with the Black Croatian matryoshka idea. Love it so much.
Must make some Lutheran/Jewish matryoshkas for the youngsters. Martin Luther inside Moshia, ya know? C.S. Lewis inside Reb Schneerson! Leonard Bernstein inside Elvis!
BTW I love both versions of the hat and the embroidery.

Aw, Cocoa Pebbles is such a doll. Those pictures are great, even if they don't show off the hat all that well.
Is there any place online to buy fabrics from Nigeria? Gorgeous!

You and your family are utterly charming. Ms. Pebbles looks totally dashing and cute as a bug in her double-breasted brown suit and with her excellent hairdo.

I can't wait to see what you come up with for the little Russian dollies... are those pics from vintage craft books? So cute!
Glad to hear you guys had fun at the Sesame Street show... I keep wondering if we should try something like that with Brynne.

You always have the most clever ideas! And I like to consider your embroidery "charming". (Quirky is very good too, though.)

Hehehe. I like "somewhat Croatian". But matrioshkas are purely Russian. Looking forward to seeing your very own version.
